First of all, please disable the HTML posts to the mailing
list (this is considered a good manner).

Second, well, while this may not be the "simplest" network
card, a Realtek 8139-based card is indeed one of the best
supported cards for any operating system. In fact, I have
three of them (two for my desktops and one as a PCMCIA card
for my notebook) and they work quite satisfactorily with
Linux. You should use the 8139too module with recent kernels.

You will have no problems getting this beast running under any
        operating system that you want.

It is not the best card around (they generate a lot of CPU
load when they're being used), but for light loads (e.g.,
cable modem, DSL or local LAN), they're more than enough, with
        a great price/performance ratio. And they're 10/100Mbps on top
        of that.
