Hmmm, I recently got a G400 working with X 4.1.0 using the matrox mga_drv.o and mga_hal_drv.o (claims 4.0.3 or something). Using the drm from dri.sf.net (version 3.0.something). DRI working on first head, multihead working great. Had two days of pain before discovering that xinerama and DRI won't play together :( The mgapdesk util (from matrox, also avail as a debian package) is great trying to get multihead going, then I just added the lines to load dri and glx and all is happy.
