Better yet, use sysctl.

  $ /sbin/sysctl net.ipv4.ip_forward
  net/ipv4/ip_forward = 0

Edit /etc/sysctl.conf to "keep" settings over reboots, etc.

sysctl and friends are part of "procps" which is priority Required.
