Dear all, I'm planning on buying a DVD drive for my computer and I found an Asus 8x drive that seems to be what I want: it is an RPC 1 drive, which means that zone control is performed in software and not in hardware as with RPC 2 drives (being zone free is important for me, since I would like to be able to play American and European DVDs as well as Brazilian ones).
So, my question is: if I purchase this drive, will there be software under Debian to take care of the zone, assuming that I use the decss modules and libraries available? I'm actually thinking of using xine and/or vlc to play DVDs. Do they control the zones? BTW, I have a Matrox G400 monohead card with 16MB. Can I use it do decode the DVDs that will be played so that I offload my CPU of this task? Are there any other tips regarding DVDs that I should know about? Any other recommendations? Thank you very much for any help, Roger... -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Rogério Brito - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - http://www.ime.usp.br/~rbrito/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
