I used to see this...sort of. It would happen when I would do a text search on a large page. Netscape would start thrashing my hard disk and the computer would become unresponsive. What I found was that the machine didn't actually lock up. If I let netscape sit there thrashing on my hard disk for a sufficient amount of time (sometimes up to 5 minutes depending on the size of the page being search) then my computer would be fine again.
