Hey folks. Recently started having an odd problem when doing an apt-get dist-upgrade. When the packages first start downloading every second package returns an HTTP 400 Bad Request error. Then when the 400 errors stop coming, the packages apt downloads somehow are the wrong size. Here's a sample of what's going on:
hal9000:~# apt-get -d dist-upgrade Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done Calculating Upgrade... Done The following NEW packages will be installed: atlas2-base gnome-users-guide libgtkextra15 libnautilus0 nautilus python2-base The following packages have been kept back lg-all realplayer The following packages will be upgraded autotools-dev base-config bonobo bsdutils cdrdao cdrecord cpp cpp-2.95 ddd <package list snipped> util-linux xchat-common xchat-gnome xloadimage 149 packages upgraded, 6 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded. Need to get 120MB/123MB of archives. After unpacking 59.8MB will be used. Do you want to continue? [Y/n] Get:1 http://http.us.debian.org unstable/main cpp 2:2.95.4-4 [3036B] Err http://http.us.debian.org unstable/main doc-linux-text 2000.09-1.1 400 Bad Request [IP: 141.213.4.21 80] Get:2 http://http.us.debian.org unstable/main dpkg-dev 1.9.15 [112kB] Get:3 http://http.us.debian.org unstable/main g++ 2:2.95.4-4 [1204B] Get:4 http://http.us.debian.org unstable/main g++-2.95 1:2.95.4-0.010629 [1024kB] 0% [4 g++-2.95 51879/89.6kB 57%] Now then, as you can see the request for the doc-linux-text package crapped out with the 400 error. And then the g++ packages are both being seen with the wrong size. Switching to ftp instead of http has solved this for me, but I'm still curious as to why this would happen in the first place. We did recently switch from dial-up to a cable modem. But this problem came around some time well after that switch, so I'm doubting that would be the cause of the problem. FWIW, I'm running sid with the 2.2.19 kernel self-compiled. -- Mike Werner KA8YSD | He that is slow to believe anything and | everything is of great understanding, '91 GS500E | for belief in one false principle is the Morgantown WV | beginning of all unwisdom.
