I had this problem last night, cuase by an install of the unifont package, which remove a fonts.alias file from one of my font directories ( I think ) I fixed it by making fonts.alias file in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/ containing "fixed default8x16" Cheers Joel
