hi all, i got a new mobo a while ago, it's got all that fancy built-in stuff like graphics, network, and sound adapters (who's idea was that... come on, if one thing breaks now you have to exchange the entire motherboard...).
anyway, i am having problem with the soundchip, which worked like three days ago: lspci reports it to be a Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Unknown device 7018 (rev 02) which is handled by the trident.o module/driver (that depends on ac97_codec.o, which depends on soundcore.o). without the module inserted, i get the familiar sox: Can't open output file '/dev/dsp': No such device when trying to play something. but then i do 'modprobe trident' and the driver loads without problems. no log entries, no nothing. and i hear a short little click in the speakers. i then run aumix -L, which produces another click as it sets the volume to the same levels i had them on when it worked. but then, when i run the play command (or mpg123) and it appears that nothing is happening: not only is no sound being produced, the play command also never terminates as if it was writing to a fifo and endlessly waiting for the other side to read from it. does anyone have any suggestions before i go and smack my vendor with the mainboard over the head (i am already very very annoyed with him!). martin; (greetings from the heart of the sun.) \____ echo mailto: !#^."<*>"|tr "<*> mailto:" [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- printer not ready. could be a fatal error. have a pen handy?
