dear list, is there such a thing as a 'terminal server' for VGA monitors/mice/and keyboards? if so, where, what, and how much? kinda like the old A/B boxes that let you share a single video port between two monitors without having to switch back and forth...?
my setup is as follows... i've got 50 stations, each manned with WYSE terminals all connected through a COMPUTONE terminal server. they all have access to a main file server. i would like to replace the WYSE terminals with inexpensive monochrome or color VGA monitors connected to smaller debian/linux servers running X or something to give the user a login that would forward them to a main file server and emulate a vt100 session(or run a desktop!) w/keyboard (don't need a mouse). let's say 5 smaller 'sub servers', each supporting 10 stations. i don't want to etherboot or do a diskless workstation...although that may be the only way to do this. does anyone else have a small/medium size set up such as this? how are you handling the cost for maintenance, etc.? any info is appreciated. respectfully yours, rob
