Jeronimo, One needs to do *extensive* upgrades to be able to run a 2.4.x kernel on debian. The structure of the /lib/modules/<kernel> has changed big-time! There is an article about upgrading to a nice 2.4.x on the debian homepage called "running 2.4 kernels on potato". might just be what you need!.
