I've managed to get a decent, but not quite satisfactory, 800x600 16bpp display using xf86config. I'm shooting for 1024x768 16bpp @ 72Hz or better, and am having trouble getting there. Running XF86Setup vanilla results in a broken display immage (grey screen, hitting arrow keyes results in a black bar of varying widths appearing vertically on the screen. On a hunch, I moved the XF86_VGA16 binary to a different location and symlinked : $ ln -s XF86_SVGA XF86_VGA16 This results in a working display, though at a fallback internal 320x200 resolution -- too small to be able to read the 640x400 XF86Setup dialogs. This machine doesn't currently have a functioning mouse, so it's not possible to pan through the display to reach various screen componenets. I've tried modifying the default Config-1 script that SF86Setup uses as a configuration file for its configuration session, however I'm unable to get the initial session to run at anything other than 320x200. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. > I think I have to upgrade xfree86, so, does anybody have the newest > sources.list? I don't think this is an issue addressed by more recent versions of XFree86, though I wish it were. $ apt-get update; echo y | apt-get dist-upgrade ...should do you: For source lines: # apt package archives deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib non-free Note also that it was mentioned that issues with the SiS 6326 have been raised several times recently on list. I only find two hits since June, 2000, though list-archive search efficacy has been on the low side of good in recent memory. -- Karsten M.
