The file /etc/modules.conf is generated (in part?) from the contents of the /etc/modutils/ directory. Any personal module additions should be put into /etc/modutils/aliases NOT /etc/modules.conf. The file /etc/modules.conf is then correctly generated when you (or the system) runs 'update-modules'. If you add things directly to /etc/modules.conf you may get the error message you are seeing. This has happened to me before. Maybe this is not what is causing your problem - if not, try compiling and installing a new kernel and things should sync OK. -- Phillip Deackes Using Progeny Debian Linux
