I'd do a raid 10 setup:

 workstation
     |
   raid1-------+
   |           raid0
 raid0         \    \
 \    \         disk3\
 disk1 disk2          disk4
               
This way, you use more disks, but you gain much more reliability without
much speed loss.  Using one drive per cable, you'd need two controllers too.
