Do you run SMP, need USB support,...? Unless you know you need 2.4, it may be smart not to change to 2.4 series. Until kernel hits 2.x.10 or something, I think it is smart to stay with older kernel if your system is important. If you feel like experimenting, update system and set it to dual boot 2.2 and 2.4.
