My mouse wont work...No X

I have just installed Debian potato. I have my internet connection established. I can't seem to get X running. I keep getting a mouse error. Can't find the device. I have tried XF86Setup numerous times. I have a Logitech Mouseman mouse. I have not had a problem in RH/Mandrake/Caldera. I have been itching to try Debian but I need a GUI to get the rest of the household on the Linux path. Any help would be appreciated.   Lorens Kulla Lakeville, MA
