Sorry for the long message, but I do not know how to explain my
problem much shorter.

My daughter has a laptop and when she complained about the instability
of Windows 95 I suggested that she try out Linux. She agreed and I
installed Stormix Hail on her laptop - what a pleasure to install
Linux using Stormix - and now she uses Linux most of the time on her
dual boot laptop. It is an dialup system using exim as mta.

For about a week there was now serious trouble and she was enjoying
it. Then the trouble started: She complained that kde's mail client
did not send her messages and lost the messages (previously it worked
without a problem). I did not know kde's mail client and thought the
problem might be that it is unstable like balsa. As my daughter wants
to use a gui mail client, I decided to install XFMail for her. The
same happened with xfmail. I first configured it on my own computer
and when I had it working, I duplicated the configuration on hers -
and then there were problems again: After composing mail, click on the
send button and nothing happens - not an error message an no message
in the mail queue. I then in desperation first tried to configure
netscape's mail on my own computer to work with my own dialup-system
en got it to work. Tried it out on hers, and it works en every way
but for sending mail. Netscape reacts on the send command as if it is
sending the message, but nothing shows up in the mail queue. When I
try out mutt on her system, there is no problem, but Mutt is a bit
difficult to learn for an ex-Windows user with not much time at hands.

The situation is a bit of an embarrasment to me who who constantly
advocates that the time is ready for Linux to be the operating system
of average computer users and that it is more stable than Windows.

I do not know where to look for the problem.

Some configurations (on both my computer [a desktop] and hers):

Potato / Hail on both systems. Everything works on mine as it should
(I did not try out kmail on mine as I do not have kde on mine).

MTA exim.

Xfmail|Misc|Conf Misc|Send: Send Method: Sendmail

Netscape: Incoming Mail Servers: (Using Movemail)

Sending mail using "mail" or mutt work without a problem. I did not
try out pine yet.

Questions:

1. Does anybody have a clue on what can cause a problem like this?
2. Which stable, easy to use gui mail client would you recommend if
the mail client is the problem? (I have even downloaded the latest
version of mahogany (rpm) but it is dependend on
libwx_gtk-2.2.so.6 and potato has only libwx_gtk-2.2.so.0.2.1
    available.

Thanks for your patience.

Johann.
