I think I will first upgrade to kernel 2.19 as was previously suggested, and then go about upgrading to kernel 2.4. As to whether I really need the new features found in kernel 2.4, well that is a two part answer for me, first off, I just want them, and secondly, I have an insatiable NEED to learn so the my answer really is, YES I NEED IT! :)
