Wisdom of mixing stable + unstable/testing?

Hi,   If one were to install the libc6 package from unstable on top of a stable install, would it break things? how badly?   There are a couple of packages from unstable and testing that I would like to use on a production server running stable. Should I just compile them and play it safe?   Thanks, Charles
