I'm not sure how apt distinguishes between the two that are so similar
like this.

This looks to be the Java 2 sdk version 1.3r2 which is newer than
1.2.2r4. Can't guarantee but think it would work.
apt-get install j2sdk1.3
or j2re1.3 for the JRE (no dev tools just runtime)
