In a nutshell: fetch linux-X.Y.Z.tar.[gz/bz2] put it in /usr/src, unpack, make (x)(menu)config, yada yada apt-get install kernel-package make-kpkg --revision Custom.1.00 kernel_image If you make changes to your kernel, you might want to increase its debian revision: make-kpkg clean make-kpkg --revision Custom.2.00 kernel_image And so on.
