Hi everyone, I've got a brand-new Compaq DL380 just begging to have Debian installed on it, but I'm not having any luck so far. I hoping that someone here can offer some advice or I'm going to be heading down the RedHat road. :-(
Just to see if there were any hardware problems, I did install RedHat 6.2 on the machine. The install went perfectly and I had it up and running using the integrated RAID controller in no time. I've included the dmesg from the RedHat install below. The server is a 933 MHz PIII w/ 640 MB RAM and two 15k 18 GB SCSI disks in a straight mirroring RAID configuration. The integrated NIC is an Intel EtherExpressPro/100. My problem is that the Debian installer wants me to "Preload modules" from a floppy immediately after the keyboard is configured. I don't know how to do that. Instead, following the directions on the rescue floppy, I've tried building a custom 2.2.18 kernel on a different machine with Smart2 RAID and other drivers built into the kernel and putting that on the Debian rescue floppy instead of the stock kernel. The RAID controller and NIC are recognized, but the installer still can't find a H.D. Any advice? I'm out of ideas at this point. -Tim -- Tim Wilson | Visit Sibley online: | Check out: Henry Sibley HS | http://www.isd197.k12.mn.us/ | http://www.zope.org/ W.
