this is the beauty about a non-obscure os: i did this many times before and i never really wanted some ghost format somewhere that i could only restore as full. so instead i used a spare machine to feed a tar cf - / output into ssh and compiled a tar file on the other side, excluding /cdrom, /floppy, and /proc. in my case, it fit onto a cdr without /home, so i burnt home separately. now, if i wanted to repartition or take a new drive, partition it, boot a boot disk, mount the harddrive appropriately, and untar into /. install lilo, and that's it. beautious! martin [greetings from the heart of the sun]# echo [EMAIL PROTECTED]:1:[EMAIL PROTECTED]@@@.net -- chaos reigns within. reflect, repent, reboot. order shall return.
