Can. Did. :-) Mine was a Toshiba T1950CT (486DX2/40) with only 8M. Took a while to work out how to dismantle it (though newer ones are easier), and needed an adapter to fit the 2.5" disk in the desktop, but other than that it was fine. Oh, I did get slightly confused with how to deal with the PCMCIA stuff, but I think I was thinking too much rather than just doing what should have been obvious - don't uninstall it, and reconfigure it once the disk is back in the notebook.
