Sounds like you're only using software rendering, check the readme file with
UT, there are 3 lines you need to change in UnrealTournament.ini, to use the
Glide renderer.  If you're still having problems, you'll have a lot more
luck with the newsgroup loki.games.ut on news://news.lokigames.com, than
you'll have here, as I suspect there are far fewer games players on this
list ;-)
