aha! very good work.

the 'man readline' suggestion i got produced 'no manual entry'
but 'dpkg -S readline' showed php and python packages (not
germane) and the libreadline4 package you mentioned.

is it just me or is this a BIZARRE path to have to travel in
order to find some documentation? exim.conf has its own manpage,
as do several others... ah, well.

i hate 'info' -- but most appreciate of the help, thanks!
