Your a gun. I figured out my problem. I onley ever seem tp search packages.debian.org for unstable packages. There is a package with an older libXpm(compiled againes libc5) which, once installed make netscape calendar work without a problem. I would also be thinking wordperfect wll be working now aswell.
Thanks for your help it is something that i have been grapling with for about a month now....if only I had have thought to check something other than unstable.
