Umm, what special procedure is there to compiling a kernel anyway? I configured it with `make menuconfig` compiled it with `make-kpkg clean && make-kpkg kernel_image` and installed it with `dpkg -i ...`. Then I reran `lilo`. Just like I did a hundred times before.
