Changing values in /proc: Permission denied

Hi!

I'm wondering why I get a "permission denied" error when I try to change
settings in /proc as "root" (e.g. "echo 132768 >
/proc/sys/kernel/sg-big-buff"). I'm using the stable distribution
("Potato").
