Hi, Did you check network configuration by "ifconfig" on Linux? Is it up? Also "route -n"? Can you ping 127.0.0.1? "lsmod"?...
Also check your service is PPoE or not as previous poster? Debian, I think, had package for PPoE. Check it out. (This is suspisious one) Good luck.
