<chalkboard moment> /dev/hdX is defined by the relative position on the IDE chain(s) hda: primary master hdb: primary slave hdc: secondary master hdd: secondary slave There is a possibility that you'll have hde and hdf, but that implies a third IDE controller, which is a rarity (I've had one before, but the only reason it got used was that I wanted to run the CD through a sound card). Traditionally, the CD is the master on it's own chain, thus hdc on a two chain system. There is no real reason for this: you could save on cabling and make the CD the slave on the primary chain, thus hdb. > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Yahoo!
