They'll work if you really don't want anybody but the owner poking through the directories. >Is one >preferable to the other? A user's home directory should have the user as the user and the group anyway so there may not be any difference between rwxrwx--- and rwx------. I like granting user / group rights because it gives me more flexibility down the road (say I want to grant a group of people access to a certain folder)
