Yes, Anne Bezemer was talking about that a couple of months before the release. Apparently buzz (1.1, the first official release) to potato is possible with a little manual intervention and one reboot (http://lists.debian.org/debian-cd-0005/msg00018.html); there are instructions at <http://panic.et.tudelft.nl/~costar/potato/upgrade-i386/UPGRADING.html>.
