Well, you should compile your kernel first. Add sound support but without selecting any soundcard. Once you finished, go to the alsa directory and run configure. That's exactly what I did, and it worked fine. Ah. It's possible that you need the GNU tools autoconf, automake, etc. But you should see that when running the configure script.
