Thanks to all who replied. Everything was as it was supposed to be but I
noticed in the kernel help package that compress only works as a
module, and since I was getting an error msg on boot about a mising ppp
module I decided to recompile ppp as a module this time. No error msgs at
all now.
Thanks for the support. There should be anote about this somewhere. Of
if compiling ppp in the kernel, there should be a note about getting the
boot error msg andw hen logging on the missing bompress msg.
