Oh the embarrassment....

So I look at the back of my box... and, you guessed it, the speaker
wire was unplugged. *DOH*!!  Now it works fine.  Boy, is my face red.

I thought it was plugged in because the modem was plugged in to the
speaker, but the sound card wasn't... that's what I get for assuming.

After reading some more kernel documentation, I've come to the
conclusion that the "Installed drivers" and "Card config" sections of
/proc/sound are for drivers that are compiled into the kernel, not as
modules.  Can anyone confirm this?
