Oh, and after doing that, copying the XF86Config.new file to /etc/X11 directory meant I could now run startx again, and resume to having X running with WindowMaker. Allbeit in a god awful resolution, so thats the next step.
BTW, I *think* the ZAxisMapping for intelli-mice is now: Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" I stuck that in as a guess and i could scroll an eterm with it.
