Official debian packages will not put anything in /usr/local, RPMs often do. This is actually one of the reasons I'm so fond of Debian over RH. This use of /usr/local by the packaging system bites alot of people on my net, because root on local machines doesn't have write access to the NFS mounted /usr/local partition... Note I've run across some .deb packages out side "official" channels that do try to write to /usr/local. Just an aside, -jon
