Well, changing /etc/resolv.conf seems to have partly fixed the problem. I can do apt-get update now, providing of course the site isn't busy. Any one with half a brain would have a 'Site Busy' message instead of that crackpot obfuscation. Maybe I'm a bit tired tonight.
resolv.conf now reads: --- nameserver localhost nameserver 203.31.178.5 nameserver 203.31.178.8 --- Postfix is still broken, with mail stuck in the the queue, I thought that leaving the ISP's nameservers in resolv.conf might help but not so. Any further suggestions? -- ---russ---
