i'd like to use squirrelmail, but the only imap implementation i can
get to allow it to login is the mailutils-imapd. that server
apparently doesn't let me append to the INBOX.Sent, so it always
complains about that when i send mail.

i'm trying to use uw-imapd now, but it seems to only allow ssl
connections, since i see the LOGINDISABLED and STARTTLS when i connect
to the imap server. through various reading it seems that uw-imapd
built with ssl disables plaintext auth, so squirrelmail cannot login.

mozilla mail exihibitted the same failure to login until i enabled
ssl, at which point it works.

i need:
a) to get squirrelmail to do ssl
b) get uw-imapd to not require ssl
c) find an imap implementation that actually works with squirrelmail.

any recommendations?

i've been wrestling with this for way too long. i'm using debian
unstable.

thanks.
