Run < update-rc.d -f portmap remove > to remove ALL
the start up links . When it runs it will show you what links its
removing.
This still leaves the portmap script in /etc/init.d so you
can manually re-start portmap and even re-install the
start up links.
Or if you want , you can remove the script from init.d
to purge it from the system. If you do this first, then you
dont have to use the -f (force) option when you remove
the links.
