Run < update-rc.d -f portmap remove > to remove ALL the start up links . When it runs it will show you what links its removing. This still leaves the portmap script in /etc/init.d so you can manually re-start portmap and even re-install the start up links. Or if you want , you can remove the script from init.d to purge it from the system. If you do this first, then you dont have to use the -f (force) option when you remove the links.
