Stop any X display managers you may be running (eg: xdm, gdm, wdm) with: $ /etc/init.d/<x-display-manager> stop Lauch X with the first of the following that works: $ startx -- 1>startx.log 2>&1 $ xinit 1>xinit.log 2>&1 $ X 1>X.log 2>&1 ...and report any error messages or output to the list. -- Karsten M.
