Is your name server already functioning? at least in 2.2 there is a line in /etc/hosts.deny, that prevents "any host whose name does not match its address" to login. ALL: PARANOID So you installed the name server, during installation "nameserver 127.0.0.1" was put at the top of /etc/resolv.conf. If named is up telnet contacts it and hangs, because of a potential misconfiguration. If named is down telnet picks up the next nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf > If I stop named, and try again, I receive the prompt, but doesn´t how I > tried, I can´t login, because the system sends me a "password is not > correct".
