Mutt does support IMAP, but it's a slow, incomplete implementation. A fairly popular alternative is to instead use and IMAP mailbox-syncing program (isync, mailsync, offlineimap, etc.) and read the mail locally with mutt. It's been a couple of years since I tried this approach since I ended up going with gnus for reading IMAP mail, but some people swear by it. -- My secret to happiness... is that I have a heart of a 12-year-old boy.
