Hello! XDM is the problem. I think the problem is, that other important X packages depend on the XDM package. So there is the possibility to delete the symlinks to xdm in the runlevel directories:
/etc/rc(number from 0..6).d /etc/rcS.d Just look for any links named *xdm* in these dirs and remove the links (I would suggest to use MC to find and delete these links). After this action, the startup will lead to the console. Kind Regards, Stephan Hachinger P.S.: Please fill out the about lines of your mails and I also suggest to you using text-only (non-html) mails. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Patrick J Draper > To: debian-user@lists.debian.org > Sent: Wednesday, July 26, 2000 11:54 AM > > >How do I stop my Debian 2.1 machine kicking straight into X windows or how > do I get out once it has. > >I'm having problems and wish to boot to the command line. > > > >Many thanks All > > > > > > > > > Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >
