Thanks to all who responded. I discovered that the Rage128 support in the XFree86 3.3.6 SVGA xserver does work with this card if you tell it what the video chipset identification. It appears that the Rage 128 Pro chips are not properly detected as can be seen in the lines below. I got it to work by putting the following line in the Device section
ChipId 0x5246 Note that this is not the ChipId reported by /proc/pci. That value (0x5046) gives the same blank screen. Perhaps this should be inserted in the xf86config database for the Rage Fury Pro and the Xpert 2000 Pro which are the cards using the Rage 128 Pro chip.
