Are you automatically booting into X (via xdm, gdm, wdm, or startx in a .bashrc/.bash_profile, etc) or into a text-mode console? If X, try Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to the first virtual (text) console, where you can then do what's needed to straighten out the problem. If you're not booting into X, are you getting a black screen during the boot process, or just at/about when you get to the login prompt, or when? Do you see the BIOS/POST messages? If not, the hardware has a problem, and editing XF86Config won't do you any good. > And how the hell do I keep from getting 27,000 emails from this user list???
