I have an answer, just for the record and anyone else who runs into this: On Mon, Jun 12, 2000 at 08:36:20PM -0400, Bob Bernstein wrote:

It turns out, for starters, that I was only looking at the news logs and of course there was nothing there because news hadn't run yet. I should have looked at syslog, which informed me about a missing history file. It turns out that the (excellent) INN FAQ (http://blank.org/innfaq) quickly directs one to running the 'makehistory' command to solve this. It's a little tricky in that I did not seem to run into the exact same filenames that are shown in the example in 'man makehistory' but in essence, apparently, the trick is to make anything that looks like 'history.n.whutever' look like 'history.whutever'. At least that's what I've learned so far... I dunno; should some of this get into the readme.Debian? -- Bob Bernstein at Esmond, R.I., USA
