Then perhaps you need to set it so that, instead of 'localhost,' nslookup returns 'debian-server' and its local IP address. Typically 127.0.0.1 is used for a caching only server, but debian-server is doing more than that. So, my guess would be that if you ran nslookup on any of the machines that look to debian-server for dns services, you will find an error.
