hi all, just a quick question as i'm trying to close in on this server problem.
if you mount a drive as /dev/hdc instead of /dev/hdc1 what are the consequences? Check this out: godzilla:/# fdisk /dev/hdc The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 33525. This is larger than 1024, and may cause problems with: 1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., LILO) 2) booting and partitioning software form other OSs (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK) Command (m for help): p Disk /dev/hdc: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 33525 cylinders Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes Device Boot Begin Start End Blocks Id System Command (m for help): q However the drive still works, still mounts, and data is still able to be copied onto the drive! running an fsck on the drive brought up a monstrous amount of problems, so i'm quite sure this is not the right way to do it. However, could something like this crash a machine? What are the consequences of mounting /dev/hdc instead of /dev/hdc1?
