The basic procedure is:

1.      Edit /etc/apt/sources.list to point to 'potato' instead of
        'slink'.
2.      Then run "apt-get update"
3.      Then run "apt-get dist-upgrade"
4.      Then ask specific questions here.

Some significant changes are:
*       Kernels 2.2 no longer need a route for the lo interface.
*       Interfaces are now configured in /etc/network/interfaces.
*       Most docs now live in /usr/share/doc, /usr/share/info, and
        /usr/share/man.
*       Perl package name goes from perl to perl-5.005.
*       Many others...
